How We Make Money

A Transparent Look at Our Business Model

Card Shark offers free credit card comparison tools, reviews, and educational content. While most of our features are completely free, our Wallet feature requires a paid subscription to help you track and maximize your card benefits. This page explains exactly how we generate revenue.

Credit Card Affiliate Commissions

One of our primary sources of revenue comes from credit card issuers and banks. When you click on a credit card offer on our website and apply for that card, we may receive a commission if you're approved. This is called affiliate or referral compensation.

Here's how it typically works:

  1. You browse credit cards on Card Shark and find one you like
  2. You click the "Apply Now" or similar button
  3. You're redirected to the card issuer's website
  4. You complete an application and get approved
  5. The issuer pays Card Shark a commission (typically $50-$500 depending on the card)

Important: This doesn't cost you anything extra. The commission is paid by the bank or issuer, not by you. Your interest rates, fees, and card terms are exactly the same whether you apply through our site or directly with the issuer.

Wallet Subscription Revenue

Our Wallet feature is another primary revenue source. It is a premium tool that helps you track your credit card benefits, monitor annual fee value, and optimize your portfolio. The revenue from this subscription-based service helps us maintain and improve the platform while reducing our reliance on affiliate commissions alone.

Display Advertising

We may display banner advertisements or other visual ads from third-party advertising networks. These advertisers pay us to show their ads to our visitors. We carefully select our advertising partners to ensure the ads are relevant and non-intrusive.

Sponsored Content (Clearly Labeled)

Occasionally, we may publish sponsored articles, guides, or reviews commissioned by financial institutions or other partners. These are always clearly labeled as "Sponsored," "Paid Promotion," or similar disclosure. Sponsored content adheres to the same quality standards as our editorial content.

Why Some Cards Pay More Than Others

Not all credit cards pay the same commission. Factors that influence commission rates include:

  • The type of card (premium cards often pay higher commissions)
  • Current promotional campaigns by the issuer
  • The issuer's marketing budget and priorities
  • Our relationship with the issuer
  • Market competition for cardholders

While higher-paying cards may sometimes receive more prominent placement on our site, we never recommend a card solely based on commission. Our goal is to help you find the best card for your needs, even if it means recommending a lower-commission product.

What We Don't Do

To maintain your trust, here's what we explicitly don't do:

  • Sell your personal information to third parties
  • Allow advertisers to review or approve our editorial content
  • Accept payment to change ratings or reviews
  • Hide unfavorable information about products that pay us
  • Recommend products that aren't genuinely good fits for our users

How This Affects What You See

Because we earn revenue through affiliate relationships, there are some important things to keep in mind:

  • We feature a wide range of credit cards, both those with affiliate relationships and those without
  • Cards with affiliate relationships may appear more prominently in some lists or comparison tools
  • We may highlight special promotional offers that benefit both you and us
  • Not every credit card available in the market will be on our site

Our Commitment to You

While we earn money through affiliate relationships, our long-term success depends on your trust. We're committed to:

  • Providing accurate, up-to-date information about all products
  • Maintaining editorial independence from our advertising partners
  • Being transparent about our business model and potential conflicts of interest
  • Creating genuinely helpful content that serves your financial goals
  • Respecting your privacy and protecting your personal information

The Bottom Line

We make money when you find a credit card that works for you, and when you use our tools to maximize the value you receive from that card. This aligns our interests with yours—we succeed when we help you make informed financial decisions. Our business model allows us to offer free, high-quality content while generating the revenue needed to operate and grow.
